Great Place To Work

Pros

Very flexible work opportunities and great work/life balance. May not compensate as well as other companies in the same area, but the benefits more than make up for it.

Cons

Career progression in the traditional sense is very slow.

Pros

The CEO is the best CEO of them all, period. Exposure to leading edge technologies. Educational opportunities.

Cons

Internal job assignment determination is the worst I have ever seen. Employees are virtual in house contractors, searching for work, while HR continues to parade new employees through a revolving door. Internal resource managers are ill-informed, short-sighted and in many cases, downright lazy. Fix the issue of going from one assignment to another and this company will be elevated higher in the list of "Best Companies to Work". Leave it as is, and an evolving door may emerge. MITRE prides itself on being different from "Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman, etc." However, that's being just talk. With an influx of so many people from "for profit" companies, the internal atmosphere/values are changing for the worst. I only wish Mr. Grasso knew what is happening in the trenches/bowels of the company. I know he would fix it.

Out of touch with the internet connected world - isolated and aging

Pros

Great flex time and government clearance gives you access to other higher paying jobs. Get a job if you can and clearance then move to another government contractor that pays better. Learn and move. If you are younger intern and move on. If you are older, it is a good place.

Cons

Outdated technology leadership, the "technical" leaders are out of touch with the internet connected world. If you are under 50 stay away if you want to advance. A lot of wasted internal processes cycles. There are repeated processes and old paper processes because isolated pockets of tech spring up and don't get assimilated into the corporation. Most people are so introverted they have no idea what a person down the hall does. Little collaboration. Large generation gaps.
