Pros

Decent opportunities but you have to find them yourself.

Cons

“Good Growth, Right Staffing, the MITRE Way, expanding to foreign markets...” These are all examples of failed ideas that we went charging into with no strategy or plan. All that has been created is more expense and more VPs. These “initiatives” have eaten up overhead and benefits. For example last year they forced everyone into the same health insurance provider, they conducted many, many, many information sessions and literature to convince eveyone that it would be better, but it’s turned out to be much more expensive and does not cover as much. Whwver an employee needs coverage, management provides no help, even when they are responsible, such as when the contracting department can’t seem to get their act together to prevent breaks in service. They typically assure everyone that there will be no break and then a day or two before they announce a break, giving little time for employees to react. Management’s only response is that they will not provide any type of charge code, find work or take vacation.

Pros

Pockets of excellence in certain highly technical areas in engineering amid a sea of mediocrity. Nice buildings, benefits, MIT cachet from long long ago. MITRE Institute learning opportunities. Flexible work schedule but only in certain departments.

Cons

Dimming former offshoot of Lincoln Labs. Overmanaged inverted pyramid. Lots of byzantine intrigue. Poor execution of its matrix management. Don't be on the bench for long or it is sayonara Tokyo. If you get in good with someone up the chain you may be promoted. Promotions are not due to technical ability. Hiring and firing many times not thought through by managers who are over their heads. An overall atmosphere of gradual decline.
