Pros

Great work life balance. Good sponsors and great people at lower levels and that work close to customers.

Cons

Current CEO and upper management are leftist activists and have turned this formerly neutral company overtly partisan. They are slowly abandoning DoD and intel work which was the foundation of the company in favor of political civilian agencies (like HHS) and NGO groups . Management use CRT and covid/Vax rules to segregate staff, lots of tension between employees and with management now.

At MITRE, we are proud of our 60-year legacy as a proven, public-interest organization across an increasing array of fields and domains. From our early roots working with the DOD – we are expanding our national and global impact as we partner across government, industry, and academia in the fields of health, cyber, justice, veterans affairs, social innovation, government modernization, and security and intelligence. Our value rests in our role as an independent and objective advisor, that serves our citizens and nation through a non-partisan, evidence-based approach that does not advocate for any specific position. We encourage and strive for diversity of thought and discourse across our organization, but we are apolitical in the solutions that we develop and deliver and always through a neutral lens in support of solving problems for a safer world.

Women beware

Pros

They treat you like an adult if you deliver quality work. That means you can work from wherever. But if I had ambition and was earlier in my career, I probably would have left--gender bias is pervasive.

Cons

Glass ceiling for women is pretty low. There is an assumption that men are inherently technical, and women are not technical. Kudos to the handful of women who have broken through that ceiling. They are likely exceptional individuals.

MITRE believes a diverse team and inclusive mindset are what drive a strong employee experience and mission success. We are committed to supporting these values across MITRE and to creating an environment where each of us can realize our maximum potential. The gender bias mentioned in this review is simply not tolerated and your comments are concerning. We encourage anyone with a specific complaint to talk to your leader, your division’s HR lead, or our Office of Ethics and Compliance, ethics@mitre.org. If you prefer to remain anonymous, you can contact our employee hotline (800-MITRE-4U) or online reporting service (mycompliancereport.com).

Pros

Great benefits and excellent work life balance. Work with very smart and educated colleagues. Incredible flexibility with your schedule (though it depends on your manager, it is part of the culture)

Cons

I've been at MITRE for over 7 years, and things have changed dramatically since the Board appointed our current CEO, who most people I know do not respect nor like, which is unfortunate. It's very difficult at MITRE if you're not a systems engineer - you have to constantly prove your value and it's tough to speak their language. Additionally, it's a very horizontal organization that has a nepotistic streak in the culture, so it's quite hard to get promoted unless you have an 'in' with leadership.
