Pros

- Salary about £380 per week as a Part I - They offer decent training

Cons

- Ridiculous unpaid overtime expectations, including all-nighters. When I confronted my manager about the ridiculous amount of overtime he said 'Well, overtime just means you're not working hard enough during working hours and if you don't do it, I'll fire you' - They hire people on zero hours contracts promising they will offer a full time contract in 3 months. I worked there for over a year, they were very avoidant and kept finding excuses when I brought it up. - Some people in management have temperamental problems which led to some fairly unpleasant events. - You won't develop much professionally if you're planning to continue your career as an Architect. This is more of a classic corporate consultancy job, tons of excel sheets, a small bit of spatial planning (which, most of the time, is already calculated by a very thoroughly planned automated excel file), and a bit of CAD, but you don't really get a real feeling of real architectural work. The work is repetitive and architecture has a very vague role in the whole process.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. The issues of wellbeing, flexible working and striking the right balance for everyone are very important to us at Mace. As part of our efforts to grow together, we want to continue to better understand how our people are feeling and have set in place a system of formal feedback to help us identify and implement the changes needed for everyone to have more good days at work. We understand that work-life balance and workload can be a challenge for some and in response have been working on campaigns and strategies to tackle some of the challenges identified. We recently updated our Flexible Working Policy to further provide everyone at Mace the opportunity to request a change of working pattern to better balance their personal circumstances alongside their role wherever possible. I am disappointed to hear about your experience as we would never expect our employees to work excessive hours over an extended period. The demands of the business mean that working outside of core hours may be needed, though we would encourage anyone who is feeling stretch with their working pattern to speak to their line manager or raise it with a member of the HR team. Creating an environment where everyone at Mace is supported and given opportunities to thrive is really important and so we encourage any feedback which can help us with the further development of our working practices. I would welcome a conversation to hear more about your experience. If you should feel comfortable doing so, please know your concerns will treated confidentially.

Pros

Good projects Central London based Good team Modern construction company

Cons

Gender pay and treatment inequality. Male counterparts careers were supported and encouraged so they could work up the ranks. Often felt undervalued and would not be given more responsibility - Was assigned menial tasks One Board member made derogatory comments regarding gender equality sexual harassment within the workplace Was never fairly rewarded for bonuses and there was no clear structure for them. Those working on very challenging projects for years were often not rewarded. There was no constituency with bonuses or pay reviews.
