Pros

decent pay, vacation time, good resume builder.

Cons

Working in the Macy's corporate office is like nothing I have ever experienced at previous companies (and I have worked for several retailers). The culture is horrific; upper management is all in it for themselves and treats assistants/associates extremely poor. I came into the EDP program so excited to be there and work for Macy's Corporate but it was NOTHING I had ever expected it to be. Supervisor support is extremely poor. Quality of work is not valued, instead you get in trouble for minor, irrelevant instances. WAY too many office politics. All the directors (buyers, digital merchants, VPs) that got to their level got there by selling their soul to corrupt values and morals of the company. In my short time at the company, WAY too many assistants and associates have quit due to poor company culture and supervisor support, to the point where HR was raising suspicions/rolling out extended benefits to try to keep talent. Unfortunately, nothing they can do solves the real issues. What does this say about the company? Wondering why Macy's is constantly filling 200+ Merchant Executive Development Program positions per year? Because nearly EVERY assistant leaves this company after about a year. Keep on wasting money training people that leave for better jobs/companies due to the internal chaos. Absolute insanity.

Pros

The team ethic between sales managers at my store was really good. I liked the program overall, the training was decent and they did a good job transitioning new managers from shadowing an experienced manager to being on their own. However as a college graduate who just spent four years getting an education I resented the amount of manual labor I had to do. As a manager in the Accessories/Juniors departments it was non-stop cleaning of clothing racks, picking up clothes out of the fitting rooms and hauling them around the three-story store. After working insane hours at Christmas I got fed up and found a new job. I think other smaller stores may have less of this problem, but the store I was in was big, had a lot of foot traffic, and was severely understaffed in the areas that needed help the most (any area with women's clothing or accessories).

Cons

Store manager made department managers come in an hour early to straighten the store, after I left I heard they made managers come in on Saturdays to straighten, regardless of whether they were scheduled to work or not..
