Pros

Structured mentorship, a lot of people who want to help you develop and are willing to give feedback, you are trusted with a lot of responsibility and given the chance to prove yourself. Promotions are based on skill and performance, not seniority or (in excess) politics.

Cons

A lot of people want to move up, so if you aren't very strong in your current job, don't expect that someone is going to just hand out a promotion to you. On the flip side, if you are good, you will be sought after in the organization.
