Pros

Friendly coworkers, fun contests, I worked at the Chanel Beauty counter and Chanel gave us a lot of employee benifits like samples and gifts if we met our sales. Macy's really didn't have anything to do with it.

Cons

They work you really hard with crazy hours and my paychecks where always wrong. they would not work in overtime. When you get hired and start working you have to get a certain amount of their store charge cards in so many days and if you do not meet it they fire you, even if you have high sales. The upper management got bonuses if the store met its card goals from corperate but would fire you if you didn't make the money for them.

Pros

All job tasks are easy and most of the customers treated me with decent respect (although Fine Jewelry got treated better than most department employees). You don't have to count the register at night and closing and opening tasks are very easy. There usually isn't much to do so it is pretty relaxing and you can chat with coworkers if there are any around or browse your merchandise.

Cons

The Fine Jewelry department is the least busy so at times it was EXTREMELY boring. You can't do anything because you're in full view of all the customers, managers, and security cameras so you just have to pace back and forth behind the counter sometimes for hours at a time before you have a potential customer. There was also a lack of training for general cashiering and store policies so when customers would ask me to check their macy's card accounts or make a payment I had no idea how and people would get mad. I was also underprepared with knowledge about the often pricy jewelry I was selling and usually I felt like I was just making stuff up to the customer when they asked question after question that I didn't really know how to answer. Some of the staff knew quite a bit about diamonds and fine jewelry, but they must have gotten that knowledge on their own.
