Pros

I worked for Origins, and my Account Executive ran contests with us to see who could reach X goal. That made the job fun. Also, the store discount was great too, but I really hate the Macy's brand clothing line. But it was nice that I could shop the cosmetics lines and get what I needed.

Cons

Management always pushed their employees to sell their credit card. I remember because I never pushed the credit card to anyone, my Manager wanted me to stand out in the front of the store trying to "recruit" customers walking into the department store to sign up for a credit card. I refused to do this.

Pros

There are a variety of job opportunities within many job disciplines. You can have a long career here because there are so many different opportunities available if you work hard and commit to the company.

Cons

You need to guide your own career and take responsibility for it for the best personal growth. Unless you find a caring mentor, your promotion is in your own hands. The employees you supervise can be a challenge because they are often unmotivated due to low starting pay. Employees can earn more, but they need to be go-getters.

Pros

Good benefits. Starting pay is fair. Store discount at Macy's and Bloomingdales. At the assistant level you are eligible for overtime, although you're encouraged not to use it. The opportunity to work with overseas factories is valuable.

Cons

Terrible management. Unqualified and insecure Directors, micro-managing Vice Presidents. Toxic environment. Demoralizing for Designers because you are pressured to copy other brands (and infringe on their copyrights). Unethical. Assistants are not eligible for bonuses. Highly structured in job responsibilities, with little flexibility. If your supervisor gives you tasks outside of your job description, and you do them, you will be criticized in your review and denied advancement for doing them. Even though they were assigned. Management believes that employees do not have the right to make their own decisions regarding career advancement - decisions are to be made by Management & HR, and the employee must accept them. If you disagree you will be penalized for insubordination.
