Pros

Macy's truly does support work life balance. Salaried employees are encouraged to disconnect from the office when they are not at work, and enjoy down time before returning to the office. Macy's allows telecommuting and divisional staff can wear jeans every day to work now.

Cons

The company has gone through two consolidations in the last three years, which means it is rare to have a day at work which is entirely predictable. We are constantly challenged to manage change, and expect the unexpected.

Pros

Macy's offers extensive traing in their Assistant Buying and Assistant Management Internships. They also give extensive training to their new hires. Even if you don't have a background in retail, Macy's will teach you everything you need to know.

Cons

If you work in the buying office, you have to wait awhile to advance. The starting pay also isn't great although it is good for retail.

Pros

Work / Life Balance is great. Macys East is a great starting point right out of college. You have to opportunity to get promoted quickly if you learn quickly and are able to lead by example. Dont wait to be told to do something, ask for it. Information is readily accessible when needed. Executive management seems to appreciate and tries to reward a job well done.

Cons

Starting pay is below average. Discounts compared to other retailers is low, health coverage is mediocre. Annual raises are between 1-6 % of current salary. Low promotional raises. If money is a big part of your decision right out of school Macys is not the place to go. It seems management tries to reward everyone across the division, but merchants seem to get the better end of the stick. More activities and better rewards, like dinner at the Tavern on the Green and the Support Group seems to only get macy money. ugh.
