Pros

- Employee Discounts - Monthly Birthday Celebrations The company acknowledged employees’ birthdays through monthly celebrations, adding a personal and celebratory touch. - Career Growth Opportunities Macy’s offered pathways for career transitions, which could help individuals explore and define their long-term goals. - Well-Known Brand Possibly good for resumes - Full-Time Benefits - Holiday Parties Annual holiday parties fostered interdepartmental connections and strengthened workplace relationships.

Cons

- Faced significant pressure to disclose medical information in order to attend doctor appointments during work hours. - Experienced significant pressure to contribute to donate their selected charity. - Informed that no lunch breaks were allowed due to company culture, despite having a legal right to one. - Workplace predominantly consisted of women, resulting in limited gender diversity - Toxic Work Environment In 2007-2010, Management created a hostile atmosphere, with frequent yelling and discouraging remarks from manager, often reflecting personal issues and personal management style rather than professional guidance. This toxic environment resulted in lasting mental health challenges that impacted both personal and family life. - Lack of HR Support Human Resources failed to address complaints about the hostile work environment or provide any employee support. - Unfair Pay Practices Employees were told not to log overtime, despite being expected to work beyond regular hours, leading to unpaid extra work. - Long Hours Without Compensation Work culture emphasized long hours only after being hired, with implicit pressure to comply due to managerial authority and expectations. Busy periods extended work hours to 8:00 AM - 8:30 PM, with additional hours required on Sundays. - Low Salary The base salary was not competitive, particularly given the workload and job demands. - No Performance Reviews for Managers or HR There were no formal processes for providing feedback on management or HR, leaving employees without a platform to voice concerns or job security. - Lack of transparency regarding the true work culture during the job posting and interview process

Pros

You can be the least creative person and last 20 years if you are in the right group

Cons

Horrible place - they talk about diversity and inclusion - bull!!! Management are pure evil - people get away with murder and if you are in the right circle you will last forever. Antiquated systems, no creativity, constantly reinventing brands, no real leadership just the BLAME game. Run - I have never seen anything like it. In the end they don't appreciate hard working individuals that care. They want yes people with no talent

Pros

They do give medical/dental benefits right away which is a big plus! Easy to move up, lots of upward movement available.

Cons

The onboarding and training process is very poorly designed. It's not effective at teaching unless you're able to sit at a computer for hours watching videos, reading policies, and actually absorb information in that way. There's very little actual hands on learning as an option, and almost all of the things I learned and actually prepared were learned on my own. My experience is that leadership does not adequately communicate expectations nor do they expressly communicate them. Policies are difficult to track down in written form after completing orientation. I was unable to find a written dress code after looking for months. PTO or sick time is not available to employees until one year of employment. I was hired and primarily working during the winter months when people commonly get sick. I got sick with the flu, covid, and an upper respiratory infection within a 6 week time period. Only my covid absences were considered excused, and even if I had a doctor's note, Macy's as a company doesn't accept doctor's notes as a reasonable accommodation for any absence relating to illness. I had complained about harassment to my People Leader and I was dismissed repeatedly. After repeat complaints of harassment I was ultimately let go due to my "repeated" absences which were illness related or emergency related (Emergency Room visits, blown out tire on car) Do not work for this company if you value work/life balance because this company celebrates people coming to work ill and rewards you for pushing yourself beyond what is healthy to the human body and mind.
