Pros

Have been with Macys for almost 20 years and they have a strong commitment to their customers and value their customers input and ideas

Cons

While Macys values their customers they don't really value their employees ideas and input. They often overlook current employees eligible for promotions and bring people from outside the company

Pros

Co workers and pay are the only two good things here.

Cons

Treated as a robot, not human. If you're going at what you do, which I am, you're heaped extra work and labels on you until there's no way to keep up. Forced to work on days off, weekends, sick days and if you don't, you're manager starts treating you as if you're not giving your all. If you go to HR asking for help to get manager off your back, your manager starts retaliating and gets super nasty. People fill out engagement surveys hoping for any improvement, and after rating boss a zero, no change. Co workers cry, across all departments employees are over worked, frazzled and miserable. You don't expect it to be rainbows and fairy dust, however by far the most oppressive atmosphere I've ever worked in. Told it's a tough year so we're given 2.5% raise, yet CEO gets 39% raise.....?

Don't Get It!

Pros

Anyone can get a job there.

Cons

Macy's pays salaries/commissions on a draw basis. If you don't meet whatever your sales goal is for the day, you have to reimburse them for the difference. Let's say you are on the floor at 11 am on a Sunday when the store is open but empty. If your goal for the day is $900 in sales but you only sell $300, then you owe them $600 and they will take it out of your commission earnings. Macy's makes money off their own employees. How they get away with this is beyond me. There should have been a class-action lawsuit years ago. Additionally, their goal is to push-push-push their charge cards and you will be fired if you don't meet the quota. With a jaw-dropping 25% interest rate, I refused to peddle a card that put people in debt. This place wasn't for me and to this day I refuse to even set foot in one of their stores.
