Benefits
- Health benefits: Terrible (expensive/confusing) and lag behind those offered at other large retail corporations.
- Paid Holidays: 6 Holidays a year (New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas) vs. the standard 10 Federal Holidays.
- Paid Vacation: New employees receive 15 days/year, of which 5 count as Paid Sick days. 5 additional days for every 5 years worked -- does not accrue or carryover.
- While Summer Fridays exist (Central employees can leave at 1:00PM on Fridays between Mem Day and Labor Day), they can only be taken if your work is done.
Compensation
- Assistants are hourly employees, and in theory, required by management to adhere strictly to 40 hours a week so as to not accrue overtime. However, given the amount of workload, this is challenging, so Assistants often "massage" their hours down to avoid being called out by management as being inefficient/slow
- Associates and above are salaried employees. Compensation varies greatly.
Career development
- EDP trainees can wait up to 6 months before being placed into an Assistant position, which delays promotions further down the career path.
- Employees must to be "released" by their manager before they are allowed to search internally for another position. Often times, this does not happen in a timely manner, depending on the FOB.
- Associates that are "released" have difficulty finding a Planner level position. Too much demand, not enough supply. Sometimes, it takes senior level support to pull strings, and without this sponsorship, Associates will either end up waiting or leaving.
Work-life balance
- Needs improvement. Within Central Planning, positions have been either eliminated or consolidated, while workload has actually increased.
