Pros

To be honest it's fine as a first job but after a year you know you can do so much better. The only reason I gave it two is if you want to grow with the company or stay there. I'm in school so this is just a side thing until I finish my bachelors (THANK GOD). If you're good at competition you'll succeed. Macy's money (until they took it away), paid time off even for part time employees, option to give up or pick up shifts unless you're in shoes, cosmetics, or furniture (they can only trade amongst each other). If you have a good manager it's not bad but that's rare! The nice GOOD ones don't last-_-

Cons

Pay sucks, no promotion, I know a lady who has worked as non commission for 12 years and she STILL makes minimum wage. I feel bad for anyone who is stuck there. Speaking of commission its hard, and even if you like you're co workers it's hard because managers and supervisors are always pressuring you. You're never good enough. You aren't servicing the customer you're a slave to the customer. You HAVE to open credits and if you don't do three a week you'll be harassed or written up. Macy's cares about the money and they could care less about you. So much pretense it's ridiculous. They want you to be happy during the long stupid morning rallies yet pay you minimum wage-what?

Good pay & advancement opportunities for entry level positions. Some senior executives really care about their people. The store manager sets the tone for the level of respect in the store.

Cons

Under staffed with unreasonable expectations of associates. reactive not proactive. security department uses questionable practices to entrap associates. not a friendly environment

Pros

I can't think of a single thing.

Cons

I worked at the Bethesda location in Montgomery Mall. The pay was bad and the 'supervisors' patrolled the floor looking for reasons to give hell to the sales staff instead of looking for reasons to praise. One morning another clerk and I were screamed at by a supervisor because we were chatting before the store opened after finishing preparing our department for opening. I walked off that day and never looked back.
