Pros

The customers are loyal, and it's a great start for a career in cosmetics.

Cons

Having to push Macy's rewards, unrealistic sales goals, calling customers for literally EVERYTHING, pre sales, events, thank you's... Not a lot of upward mobility unless your in the "in-crowd", or the manager really likes you. Raises are based on performance which is typical, aside from the fact that you have a score sheet which tallies all your return client visits which need to be 15% of your sales, your credit apps, your sales goal, and things like that. Also be warned, I've made some great friends in cosmetics but it can be very "high school"... Drama, back stabbing, generally narcissists who are great at being fake, lol.

Pros

Many different technology stacks, reasonable work/life balance, little to no backstabbing or peer politics, pay on par with industry averages. Free 1/2 day summer hours program is excellent if one's manager embraces it. The company is actively attempting to move into more modern tech practices, but turning a corporation is like steering a battleship...it takes time and great effort.

Cons

MST is organized in "business units" and each one has its own personality and operating style. One's experience can differ completely depending on BU assignment. Access to newer technology is completely based on one's BU, its funding, and its managements' willingness to take risks and innovate. Company has a retail mindset rather than a technology focus. IT employee benefits are the same as the rest of the retail organization and are quite expensive. Very few perks compared to modern IT companies. No telecommuting allowed.

Pros

You get an employee discount of an extra 20%. If you are part time and want more hours, you can pick up extra shifts. You also can try to switch shifts if someone is willing to take them. Macy's also seems to like to hire from within. If you are studying marketing and working, keep your eyes open for other opportunities.

Cons

Macy's is above Wal-Mart, and below Nordstrom's. The stores are full of so much junk. The women/teens section ends up with half the clothes on the floor of the dressing room and the other half misplaced. The sales are confusing. The mgmt is always pushing associates to get people to open credit cards. People are always calling out or quitting, which makes others have to do more work. I also hate all these associates who whine and complain. It is RETAIL; if you want to party every weekend and act like the world owes you something then you need to get your head checked. I hate working weekends also, but I do it knowing I'm working for something else down the line. Stop complaining and get a plan, goals and a work ethic.
