Pros

-Inclusive work culture where employees and contractors are treated with respect and courtesy - values that are reinforced from the top down -Open communication, where managers encourage staff to provide feedback (informally or on a regular scheduled basis) -Not only does our company state that work-life balance is important, they created Summer Fridays from Memorial Day to Labor Day - program that enables staff to leave after 1pm to take advantage of summer time with family and friends and still earn their full 8 hours pay -Focus Fridays - allow staff to spend Friday afternoons on developing their skills by attending classes, self-study, etc. -Training is available on a variety of subjects pertinent to improving job skills, technical or managerial -Giving back to our communities is a very important value in our culture that is reinforced by the many charitable events that we sponsor and encourage all staff to participate

Cons

-Health care benefit options are limited and expensive - there is no eye vision coverage -Hard to retain good employees when our salaries and benefits are not comparable to other technology companies -More transparency in announcing open positions within a department so that existing employees are able to apply

Pros

Workforce at the stores are friendly and caring. Prestigious titles for a business card. On the cusp of brick and mortar changes. Brand name well known. Empowerment of associates make them feel part of the team and a mover/shaker.

Cons

Being told to do more with less, constantly. Pay is not competitive to keep top talent. More trust and ability for stores to make change without constant corporate oversight. Aggressive goals that are not part of trend for the area that set up stores to fail and people to not make bonuses, esp when their data indicates customers are moving towards online purchasing. Inventory management is non-existent and lack of dedicated support to fix. Sending more emails does not mean better communication.

Pros

The only two redeemable qualities of working at Macy's are the employee discount and the people. That being said, their credit card interest rate is about 4% higher than the discount, so if you carry a balance on your card, the discount is moot. If you must work there, be sure to pay off your bill every month or prepay on your account before buying anything. The people, in general, were lovely.

Cons

1) Too many new initiatives to try to improve sales and service, resulting in a hodge-podge of selling and service techniques that rarely, if ever, result in sales or service improvements. 2) Upper management does not care about work/life balance, unless it is their work/life that needs balancing. Over the years I turned down dozens of invitations to important family events because I absolutely had to work every single One Day Sale. Sitting here now, I'm amazed by the abuse I allowed myself to put up with just because I was glad to have a job. 3) Competition should be healthy, not vindictive. All wins should be recognized, regardless of first, second, or third place. 4) If you grew up in the company, as so many have, forget about any decent pay raises. Your best bet is to work somewhere else for a few years, then come in and get paid more than everyone else already working there. 5) If you do everything else well, but struggle with one component of your job, be prepared for that one component to be picked at like a scab, with very little help or advice from upper management.
