Pros

The ONLY pro to working at Macy's is the associate discount.

Cons

WHERE DO I BEGIN????? First, the 'scheduling' system is unbelievably ridiculous. EVERYTHING is done by the computer. A real person does not do scheduling, so, that means: if you don't put your request(s) in at least 5 weeks ahead of time ( you are allowed 2 weekday and 1 weekend day requested as unavailable) you are out of luck; management will not change things around for you. You are told to ask around in your department to see if you can swap with someone else THROUGH THE COMPUTER. This is stressful; typically there isn't someone else that has that exact day off with you having their day etc etc to make a perfect 'switch' so you don't lose hours for the week. MACYS IS THE FIRST RETAILER TO ANNOUNCE OPENING AT 6 PM ON THANKSGIVING????!! That right there should be enough to tell you they do NOT care about their employees. 2. There is a 'point system' for attendance. If you get into a car accident, there is a pile up on the highway, things basically totally beyond your control, you 'lose' an attendance credit(exception now is death in family); this includes if you are sick for 2 or 3 days, even with a dr note you would lose 3 credits and weekends it is double. So, people come to work sick. Oh, as long as you come in, you can leave EARLY after working for 3 hours and not lose any points(??) . Basically associates are treated unfairly, unjustly, and as if everyone is in kindergarden. 3. There is absolutely NO training that your 'manager' does with you when you're new. You get some keys and learn as you go . MACY'S ONLY OBJECTIVE IS TO MAKE A PROFIT, AND NOT GET SUED. Everything revolves around these 2 things. DO NOT WORK FOR MACYS.

Pros

Lots of great people with good ideas and the desire to do the right thing. Good work-life balance. Great location in downtown SF.

Cons

To many layers of overhead - takes forever to get sign-off on a design or project design, which sometimes resulted in things not getting done because the approval came too late. Everything is build on top of legacy systems, which are slow, not integrated, and often unstable. Development cycles are severely hampered by lack of valid data and unstable test environments and builds that can take up to a day.

Pros

Very interesting and diverse workforce. HR folks really seem to care about creating an inclusive culture. Work environment is adequate.

Cons

Lack of meaningful innovation. Really dumb promotion process - you have to apply to a bench for the privilege of applying to other jobs. Too much emphasis on experience at MST - other experience not valued.
