Pros

If you keep your ideas to yourself, only do what you're told and never correct anyone, especially upper management, you can have a long and prosperous stagnated carer.

Cons

If you are one who thrives on being able to drive effective change and holding people accountable, you may not be a fit. If you are a free thinking individual, you might not be a fit. If you believe in honesty and integrity, you might not be a fit. If you question upper management, you might not be a fit.

Not the best company to work for, but you'll learn a lot about retail.

Pros

One of the best things about working for Macy's is that you can choose your own schedule. Not need to ask to have a day off or having to think up an excuse to call out for the day, because everything is online. Of course, they do schedule hours throughout the week but it's a very flexible company. Also you learn a lot about how a retail store works. It would be a great first job for anyone.

Cons

Sometimes it feels like you're not getting paid enough for how much you do. You must keep the floor clean, help customers, persuade others to open Macy's cards, etc all for 9.00 per hour. At the end of an extremely long 7.50 hour shift where you get paid less than 60.00 after taxes it feels like it's not worth it. Also feel like a lot of the senior staff are a little stuck up. Could be just the Macy's I work at though.

Pros

You get to pick your hours online.

Cons

You can't get enough hours to make anything decent. Maybe during holidays but it's slave labor and everyone is angry at you when they are Christmas shopping. The hours available are what the full-timers leave you, usually the hardest and most undesireable time slots. Macy's is consistently understaffed so you don't get breaks, especially on weekends and holiday weeks. These breaks are mandated by the department of labor so even if you miss your break helping customers no one cares. You are forced to fulfill a quota. The people at Macy's say you never get fired for not fulfilling your quota, but if they wanted to fire you, they could use this as an excuse. Don't go working for Macy's during the holidays. They won't retain you even when you are willing to do their midnight to morning inventory count. The shoe departments are brutal in that you got 5 to 10 customers to a sales associate and all the shoes are in the back, on shelves, out of order. You're constantly getting shoes to irate customers. Many leave because they get tired of waiting. The returns count against your quota and your commision if you are full time. Most of Macy's merchandise is old and uninspired.
