Pros

The best part of this job is connecting with the customers and helping them find items for certain occasions. The scheduling system is automated, therefore, able to pick up additional shifts in other departments if you like.

Cons

Management needs to be improved! As a Retail Sales Associate, you are given daily sales goals. You are expected to do go backs on the floor. However, if there is a lot of customers, other associates are at the register you will not get a chance to ring up customers and therefore not meet your goal. Manager says, "We work as a team and alternate register time." That was not the case when I was working and that day, I did not make my goal while the other associates made over their goal.

Pros

Store manager and most department managers were really great individuals genuinely trying to meet the demands of the job. Would recommend as a quick job in a pinch. A good option for someone wanting to move up into management or find a management training program.

Cons

Poor compensation. The sales quotas are very high and the rewards for meeting them is insulting. Only a livable wage if you are management or in a commissioned position- Which are a very limited positions. Too many tasks on the office side. Macy's seems to be cutting costs on labor with slumped sales. This lead to having to juggle too many tasks with too few hours. Coupled with the poor compensation, the job wasn't worth it. I was sorry to see great managers (in my location) in the store have their hands tied to solve problems due to the inflexibility of the business model set out by Macy's corporate.

Pros

Pick your own schedule (not really for seasonal employee like I was). Coworkers were nice for the most part. Great retail experience for holiday season.

Cons

They tell you that your able to schedule your own hours, but if your season they will assign you days anyway. One particular manager in men's would single out certain people to stay over. Not considering you're a woman leaving the mall around 2am...No! If the other employees can see people slacking off how couldn't the managers? Some people tend to think very highly of themselves compared to a new employee. Seems to care more about the customers than their own employees at times.
