Pros

Manheim has always been a class act. The leadership has been willing to be innovative, even for a business that is decades old. Fortunately, Manheim began early in pursuing sales over the Internet and between OVE and Simulcast are leaders in the online world as well. They take care of employees so not much need for unions. With over 20,000 employees taking surveys that say they are better than most leading companies is not a surprise. Dean Eisner was a steady, smart and thoughtful leader for over a decade and I am sure that Sandy Schwartz will be the same.

Cons

There is a lot of change going on, but it is needed. Some of the managers who are less interested in moving forward will make things difficult for those of us who want to move forward. Competitors are years behind Manheim, but that doesn't mean it will stay that way. Over the past few years, Manheim had sewed up a lot of the big customers -- now everyone is looking at new ways to sell cars.

Pros

Good benefits package, laid back, predictable environment. Good work-life balance.

Cons

Great deal of recent turnover in senior leadership and with that a shift in the direction the company as a whole is headed in. Compensation for job duties under par. Little to no upward mobility unless you are "selected" by senior leadership. Although all open jobs are posted, anyone who spends any appreciable amount of time working at Manheim knows that the HR process is simply followed for show. Senior decides who they want for a given position before it is posted and that person generally is given the job. Current "vision" of Dean Eisner -CEO is to take individuals who have little or no experience in a given area and place them in a management position over that area so that they will become a "more well rounded employee".

Pros

Manheim has strong benefits, like a 401(k) match up to 6% and commercial department-provided meals-but make no mistake, they'll put you through the wringer. The perks are there, but they come at a cost, with a work environment that can be intense and unforgiving.

Cons

The commercial department at Manheim Southern Califonia is grueling and unsupportive. Management seems more invested in tearing down their team than fostering any sense of growth or appreciation. No matter how hard you work, it's never enough, and if you make a single mistake due to the relentless workload, you're hauled into the manager's office and treated as if you risked her job. The demands are punishing, the recognition is nonexistent, and the stress level is so intense that more than half the department is desperate to leave. The pay simply doesn't compensate for this kind of environment.
