Temporary job for everyone.

Pros

Convenient job for students. Interesting place to observe childhood learning process. Low effort during non peak hours. Good if you like kids.

Cons

Dead end job with dead end pay and (probably less than 20 an hour) "codirectors" being childish. One of the co-directors never cleaned up, never changed to uniform when the owner wasnt there, and plays games at the center. I asked. And he said no to cleaning and to changing. If the female codirector saw me sitting down looking around the room waiting for kids who needed help, she'd tell me to clean the tables sometimes with a side of hostility. Of course, she wouldn't tell the other co director to clean. Never ever have I seen her ask him to. Ive asked one codirector to get to another kid's question from across the room because they're closer and I'm helping a kid here, and you could see it in their face they hated that I simply asked them to. I also just didnt agree with the methodology of teaching kids, and I guess it bothered me. It seemed very hit or miss depending on the kid. There was WAY too much hand-holding. Success was attributed to the center sometimes when it very clearly wasn't. With 12 an hour and no self respect, it's better you start your own tutoring business.

A good college job

Pros

Might be specific to my branch but the boss is pretty laid back which has its pros and cons. Sometimes its great because he understands that we're college students first and allows us the breaks and days off we need but sometimes too laid back that he doesn't do his own work and pushes it off on the instructors. Also working with kids is quite fun and fulfilling. They're funny and mostly all of them are actually interested in being better and really appreciate the help you provide. Easily the best part of the job.

Cons

Not efficient environment but again could just be this specific office. Often takes the boss months to do basic and easy tasks like change the address of an employee or order more supplies. The office often gets very busy which is a pro and a con.
