Pros

-Fun group of people to hang out with when they aren't bickering -Some customers put a smile on your face -Good advancement opportunities, at least at this store -Great employee discount at multiple stores

Cons

-The pressure of selling the Maurice's card is ridiculous -Store manager is unable to to motivate employees enough to do a GREAT job -Managers and employees bicker amongst one another because they are ALL women -The customer service they want you to provide to customers is completely crazy; I could go to Wal-Mart, get more hours, and not have to have near the customer service that I have to provide AND make more money at the same time -Managers are completely oblivious to their clothing prices. Maurice's clothes are expensive and we are expected to tell our customers "they are paying 70 dollars for ONE pair of shorts because of QUALITY" what a JOKE! They aren't any better quality than any super cheap store--you could easily go to the Good Will, get a high quality blouse for 5 bucks, rather than spending 29.50 on a blouse at Maurice's.

Pros

Maurices is a very fun company to work for. Positivity and enthusiasm abound. The company wants you to succeed and encourages your career growth. They love to promote from within. Many people have worked here for 20+ years and love it. Benefits are great, the management tries to stay in touch with every level in the organization and values its employees. They do lots of little things to reward successful teams and recognize hard work.

Cons

Pay is low for entry level positions. You'll get one annual review and if you're lucky you'll get a fifty cent raise. Plan on applying for a promotion or a sideways move as soon as possible, that's the only way you can expect to make more money, is in a salaried position. Competition for these jobs is tough; lots of young girls with fashion marketing degrees and a ridiculous fake enthusiasm for fashion. Live eat breathe the corporate culture and you'll succeed. In my last review I received excellent feedback on my past year achievements but was told to change my personality if I wanted a promotion. I understand being a team player and I have a very positive attitude but a dry sarcastic sense of humor and that is what is holding me back. I definitely won't be a lifer here. Also, training is not emphasized, you're on your own to seek out co-workers who will help you. The system crashes on a regular basis. The office is constantly under construction, new offices built then the next year taken down, so there is constant noise and paint fumes.

Pros

Great training opportunities for all levels of employees within each store, great promotion potential up to the store manager level, product sold in stores is generally good quality for the price, good employee discount

Cons

The hours a store manager has to put in to do a good job leads to burnout, smaller stores tend to be very understaffed
