Pros

Discount on clothes is great (40% off regular-price, an additional 20% off clearance); great group of people to work with---no cattiness (not in any of the 3 stores I've worked for); wonderful management training program with great incentives---trains you to not only be a maurices manager, but to take those things learned on to new places; company rewards and recognizes associate performance consistently; flexible schedule

Cons

If there is one thing I could change about this company: get rid of the individual sales goals! Telling us we need to work together as a team to meet our goals, and then giving us individual goals to meet is not fair. We are not paid commission, so we should not have to act like we are commissioned sales associates. It IS possible to continue to offer the level of customer service we have while doing team selling instead of individual selling. Also, as a manager, it is extremely hard to meet a certain percentage of individual sales plus do all of the management tasks on top of that (ie: when you work 38 of the 164 hours allotted, you are responsible for that percentage of store sales---23%---which is a LOT of sales to make, plus everything else that has to be done). There are also not enough payroll hours to get all the tasking done (ie: 9 hours for a floorset is not enough!). The company says "Focus on customer service 100%", but then expects you to do floorsets, reset tables, process freight, complete markdowns, etc while the store is open, because there is no such thing as non-productivity hours given here.

Pros

I've worked in a LOT of retail places, and by far, Maurices has been one of the best. The environment is positive, the benefits *rock* (40% off merchandise?! Heck yes!), the company is both employee and customer-focused, and the store hours are so nice.

Cons

It might just be my store, but I find us short-handed all the time. I agreed to this position because I was promised 20 hours a week, 25 tops. But the past month, I've been working 30+ hours a week. Because we only have about 8 employees when our staff is full, it's still annoying when you're getting calls because someone called off. That's something I miss about working in a larger store-- not being bothered when someone else doesn't show up for work.

Pros

nice discount, cute clothes is about all

Cons

no hours unless someone goes on vac gets fired or is sick. they promise you hours and give you little. they hire new associates and tell you it won't affect your hours then your hours are cut. Very double standard. Your set up to fail. Team players are the associates 1st assistant and Manager are NOT TEAM PLAYERS. 1st assistant lies, steals sales, leaves fitting rooms for other associates to clean up. Pushes the work she does not want to do on others. She makes a mistake and it is everyone elses fault and if you make a mistake you get in trouble even written up or fired.
