Pros

Exposure to consultative healthcare sales, experience is good for those who are great with conflict resolution. A stable job.

Cons

Lackluster promotional opportunities, lateral movements, promotions with no change in official title or job scope, mediocrity in management, disconnected senior and midlevel managers, compensation concerns, little work life balance. Company is ok with entry level workers staying entry level for entire career. This explains hiring tactic of getting high GPA college students their first job as they do not know any different. Unprofessional attention to company handbook. Will place clauses in handbook without informing company employees who are overworked. Policies only concerned of bottom line. Not good will or integrity. Everything at this company has a caveat. This includes going to the copy machine and restroom breaks. This is the equivalent of babysitting and being in high school. I was a top performer at my role and because I worked too efficiently I was not seen as a leader. This is a great product but company culture must change to retain employees. Also company needs to focus on updating 20+ year old systems. They worked on some new things for over a decade and then gave up. This is not a leading edge company for technology as much as this point is driven home by senior leaders. Also inconsiderate when an employee wished to transition to a new employer. Integrity needs to be engrained in managers. I was given many reasons to not hold up my end of a two weeks notice and completed it because of myself and personal integrity not loyalty to this company. This is a job not a career young college grads. You will learn that in year 4 here.

Pros

Strong financials, good employees with good work ethic, good benefits.

Cons

Medpro is run like an financial machine that stops at nothing for maximum profits. Very quickly, employees realize that they are not really valued, they are just contributing to the financial machine to reap maximum profits for Buffet and the senior management. Senior management make huge money/bonuses and treats as a means to an end. Benefits are good, work/life balance and flexibility is poor. Compensation is okay for Fort Wayne. HR is horrible. CEO is horrible, but he does not care, he is making millions. He just "checks the box" when it comes to anything that is not money related. His managers just follow suit. He runs it like a GE factory. If you stay there past a couple of years, the benefits and pay are just good enough to keep you there in misery. My advice - just stay away, long term, you will be much happier working somewhere else.

Pros

What was said during interview but it turns out to be untrue. Some prospective employers tend to embellish to some extent but this company's senior management makes promises that turn out to be completely untrue, and encourages their staff to do the same because they have difficulty attracting talent either in Indiana or outside of the state

Cons

Run like an insurance company in 70's or 80's. Very old fashioned mindset, extremely hierarchical, almost everyone passes the buck, and much backstabbing goes on because upper management does not take responsibility but prefers to point the finger at middle management. For this reason, people are afraid to act and atmosphere is very negative. They keep mentioning fairly recent acquisition by Berkshire Hathaway but it is not run like a BH company but like General Electric used to run this company. The current senior management is primarily GE folks, including the CEO. So expect the same rigidity, less than ethical competition (business acquisition by hiring competition's high performing employees), and inefficient methods. Some employees can be disgruntled at any company, however, MedPro has a much higher share, especially since the company has a captive market in Ft Wayne, Indiana where employees have very few choices in commercial insurance. Medical Protective uses this to their advantage to treat their employees much les fairly than the rest of the industry. The company may offer good experience for someone starting a career but employees in higher positions are regularly treated like children, given no initiative, and subject to work methods that have no connection with reality (senior management's favorite mantra is 'that's the way we have always done it'). Day to day environment is threatening, with no team work as a result of management's negative pressures.
