      MedStar is a good place to start a career, but not a place to stay.

      Pros

      Employees are very friendly and helpful to patients. I have enjoyed working with several of my co-workers. It is not a bad place to start your work life if you plan on staying for one year, gaining some experience and moving on.

      Cons

      The salary is low and raises are small. There is no room for advancement. Work schedules are rigid with no consideration given for work-life balance. Parking is very difficult and expensive. Employee turnover is very high.

      Pros

      MedStar provides great PTO time to all of their employees. You can almost get one day earned every two weeks, plus personal days and holidays.

      Cons

      If you are looking for a company where you can excel and grow, this is not the company for you. The management prefers to hire employees that will not make waves and will follow orders mindlessly, even if they waste time. Many times associates are given directives that make no sense and will only "pass the buck" onto the next department so that the same problem rolls around through the many departments, unsolved for weeks or months. The big push is employee productivity, not efficiency.

      Pros

      I love working for a healthcare company that puts patient safety first and foremost in everything. The benefits are great. The atmosphere is pleasant.

      Cons

      The merit increases are quite low in comparison to other healthcare companies. The hours are long for salaried employees.
