Pros

- decent PTO (lumped sick/vacation) of 15 days / 3 weeks from year 1 for outpatient network and either 7 or 9(?) holidays per year

Cons

- denied use of vacation days 80% of time I requested it - very poor management on every level, starting at the top - frequent changes of policies that are often opposite of former policies - management accused medical doctor of insubordination because s/he asked a very reasonable question in a staff meeting (no one else thought it was insubordinate) - squeeze every ounce of life out of highly trained medical professionals and coddle administrative staff that (not all, but some) literally did not do their basic job tasks - culture of quantity NOT quality - technologically backwards, not just behind.

Pros

Sad..used to be a great, caring place to work. But has steadily gone downhill and future looks bleak!!

Cons

Everything in the hospitals is now a numbers game. How do you treat a patient in 15 min? -move them in and push them out. Dropping of medical services all around. Overworking the managers and staff. If they complain-they are let go. Fear and intimidation rule the day. Smile to the public but cry in your office. Absurd working conditions but hide them! Absurd budget analysis. Keep the Hospitals Top heavy with administration but reduce all your support workers to save money! Do phony straw polls (Employee evals) and because of fear nobody is telling the Emperor(Medstar) that he does not have any clothes on! Sorry State for Maryland as we lose major Hospitals in the Balto Metropolitan due to reduced or eliminated financial support from local, state, federal gov;t. and the worst part is nobody is hearing about this crisis!

Generally Good company

Pros

Good for people who are ambitious, self motivated and know where they would like to go. They usually promote within if you express and are proactive about showing you can go beyond your duties and offer to do more for them. They are also supportive about continued education. It is helpful if you make connections with fellow employees outside of your area.

Cons

Company will not usually not make an active effort to develop you (outside of what is required such as new software training or initiatives that they are implementing). There is a general turn around of employees from admins to nurses and physicians. While the facilities are usually nice, some areas need updates and the hospitals are losing market shares to John Hopkins and Inova. I would recommend this company as a stepping stone as you will learn that you can get stuck where you are easily.
