Pros

Medvet is an interesting place to work and you will get to use most if not all of your tech skills plus some new ones you learn along the way. The facility I worked at was more diverse then vetmed is in general, and all coworkers are very courteous and respectful of each other’s differences. Their benefits and pay scale is OK.

Cons

Unfortunately their training for new employees is disorganized and confusing. There is no training plan with a trajectory or expectations for what you need to have learned by 30/60/90 days. Their basic skills curriculum is freely available but no time is carved out for you to actually go do the classes during your training shifts. There are live courses available as well, but if they are outside of your work availability then too bad, there is no virtual option. You can expect very little to no feedback outside of your 30/60/90 day reviews which are unscheduled and often weeks-months overdue before management gets around to doing them. I felt like I was out of sight, out of mind to management most of the time. Reviews are given “anonymously” by your fellow employees, who may or may not work with you regularly. For example, one of my reviews mentioned something that happened > 6 weeks before the review in question, in an area I had only trained in for 2 days. Overall I found their training process to be an exercise in frustration with no clear path for success. Most coworkers seemed nice enough, however some areas and shifts can be very cliquish and hostile to outsiders. You can forget about any chance of succeeding there once certain people decide they don’t like you.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience at MedVet. At the beginning of 2024, we launched our basic skills curriculum, which equips new team members with the skills and resources needed in order to have a successful and organized onboarding experience. This program is constantly evolving and growing to support an overall seamless MedVet onboarding experience, while each specialty department provides support for caregiver’s training on specific skills in relation to their role. Our clinical skills list and training plans are continuing to make great strides in organizing expectations. Virtual options can be accessed for those that cannot attend a live course as long as it is communicated in advance. We appreciate feedback as it helps us identify ways to evolve and implement where necessary. Thank you for sharing your voice.
