Pros

The company is strengthened by its core values and really cares for its employees. Communication drives the operation teams across all the sister hospitals, which makes it easier when emergency situations arise (item shortages, inventory backorders. and other operational mishaps). Help is always around when needed, as communication is open with other operations team members at other sister hospitals. Emergency veterinary care is a high-stress field but having management and other operations technicians available makes problem-solving easier. I enjoy working with the operations team in my region. They are very knowledgeable with years and years of experience in both clinical and operational capacity, so I find myself learning new things every day.

Cons

The job, by nature of the field, is very stressful. It can be very overwhelming for a large portion of the week, so it is vital to learn how to manage projects, tasks, and "fires" that arise. Company provides plenty of growth opportunities for clinical employees but pathways are very limited for operational team members. Very little work-life balance for operation team members. Constantly getting emails and contact about inventory issues, low supplies, or shortages. Due to this, I am never really fully disengaged from work.

Thank you for sharing your experience in working at MedVet, we are happy to hear that our core values of teamwork and compassion are front and center! Emergency veterinary medicine space is fast paced, stressful, and we agree that compassion fatigue is real. We have tools and help available to balance some of the stress , be sure to explore Headspace or the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
