Pros

Brand new facility allows for great collaboration and innovation. Fast paced environment with a lot of exciting work going on. Unlimited PTO and other great benefits for U.S. workers.

Cons

If you aren't actively engaged and jumping in when you hear something of interest, an opportunity will pass you by. Don't expect someone to tap you on the shoulder with an opportunity for development. The pace is so fast that there are often valuable things left on the table. Work/Life balance can be a challenge and must be actively monitored.

Medidata moves at an incredibly fast pace, and with the ever changing nature of our business & industry, it is not likely that we will slow down anytime soon! We understand that the rate at which our Company is changing may be faster than the rate at which we can communicate all changes with our teams. This is something we are actively working on, as visibility into all aspects of the business is vital in fostering an innovative & collaborative environment, which will always be Medidata’s objective. Keeping with the common theme of fast paced growth, some employees may get caught up in the day to day grind that they forget the most important thing for themselves, work/life balance! We hold our employees to a high talent bar, but we also know that having a life outside of the office will ultimately foster better & happier employees. We strive to allow flexibility in the workweek, as personal and family well being always come first. We expect you to get your work done, but give you the flexibility to decide the best hours for you. How are we working to encourage work/life balance? Some of our new U.S. benefits in 2014 include unlimited paid time off, gym and tuition reimbursement & monthly office events (such as trivia & poker nights!) We are also working diligently on enhancing the skills of our managers at all levels in the company. Some will continue to come in the form of training but most is direct coaching and feedback from the next level management and their business partner.

With our headcount growth close to 20% per year, we understand that some of our employees (who are amazing contributors and valued members of our organization) may not have been ready for the managerial positions that they were recently promoted into. We also recognize that having a supportive & qualified manager is vital to an employee’s personal growth and work life satisfaction. How are we going to fix this? Medidata is 100% committed to providing our new managers with the resources they need to succeed in their new roles. The Medidata Academy is an initiative dedicated solely to the growth & continued education of our current employees. From product training to Managing at Medidata, we are investing our resources into our people to ensure we are building up, and nurturing, our talent for the future. We are also working closely with second level managers to help them reinforce the message and accountability that “management” is the role of a manager, not solely doing I/C work.

Steadily wearing down from within.

Pros

Compensation can be very attractive for the right role. Serious player in the market. Strategy is a good one if it can be realized.

Cons

If you are not in the right role, compensation is well below industry average. Playing favorites is an understatement. Products are showing age. Many silos between departments and no plan to coordinate. Instead, the decision is to keep creating new groups with unclear objectives. Very difficult to allow new employees, even senior level hires, to make a difference. Said to want infusion of new ideas, but it is just PR, not reality. There are a few people with a lot of influence and these people want to stay fixed on what the company was five years ago. They don't know what the terms future, vision, or change are to an evolving organization.

Thanks for your feedback regarding Company silos as this information is very helpful for us when determining which areas are causing our employees the most frustration! As our Company has quickly jumped from a small sized company to a mid-sized company (now with over 1,000 employees) new teams have sprung up to support our growing initiatives Although you may not see or understand the objectives of these teams/organizations, a lot of time & deliberation has gone into where our Company needs the most support & how we can positively impact the business. We believe there may be disconnect in how the message is being communicated to the rest of the employee population. Visibility and open communication are at the top of our priority list and as we look for ways to improve our means of communication as we grow. By no means have we ever wanted to squash new ideas, so we apologize that you have experienced this. Our goal: promote cross collaboration. Interested in learning more about a new department, position or product? Let us know! We are happy to make introductions to the appropriate members of the organization and are always looking for fresh ideas. Our Company was built on the innovative & transformational ideas of our employees. Why change a good thing?
