Stressful place to work

Pros

The only best thing about company is fun Friday that you can go home 2 hours early in summer time.

Cons

If you are type of person always follow your boss, say yes to he/she, you don’t have to work hard and easy to get away on everything. No communication, very stressful and unhealthy place to work.

Pros

As a co op you do real work a lot of chances to learn new things and expand your skill set Great work place culture in regards to the average employee

Cons

Disconnect from upper management, for most part it seemed like upper management (executives) would just do things without consulting engineers. To continue off that point there seems to be some cognitive dissonance in the executive staff. They all gave a great speech to the co ops and interns about how they would only work at a company whose culture and values matched their own. They then promptly fired a bunch of people with no warning and forcibly escorted them from the building, some of these people had worked for the company 10+ years and were close to requirement. I don't think that speaks very highly of what the c suite's cultures and values are. In a lot of ways this company is stuck in 90's in terms of practices when it comes to the software side of things and business practices. The co op program really needs work. It is not bad and I really liked how much freedom is given to co ops to complete their tasks. However, a co op's experience is also supposed to include continued learning beyond hard technical skills. This is a chance for students to learn how to operate in the professional world. Whether or not a student gets this experience depends entirely on who their mentor/direct supervisor is. I got very luck and was given a good balance of guidance and freedom. But other co ops seemed to get a lot less from their mentors and were in some cases, left without any help from the person that was supposed to be their mentor.

Employee burnout is coming unless we change

Pros

The employees and management are great to work with. Everyone is dedicated to success and highly driven to support each other's (and the company's) goals. The company has been executing the stated strategy well, and acquisitions have been complementary to the existing customer and technology base.

Cons

The work culture is one of 24x7 right now. I see more and more people online over the weekend, and Saturday has become virtually another day at the office based on the volume of emails I see. Travel seems to be the norm as many people are out of the office on a routine basis (and some every week). In most companies there is an expectation of some off-hours work. However, over the past year I have noticed that off-hours work is the norm and almost expected across many teams including teleconferences and video conferences on Saturday and Sunday in some cases. Burnout is coming if management doesn't change (or possibly set) expectations.

We appreciate your thoughtful feedback. Our company culture is one of high performance and sometimes requires off-hours work to maintain the level of success we have achieved. On the whole, we strive for a balance between work and personal time. We understand the important role that family and “slack time” play in our employees’ contentment and in their success – both at work and at home. We also recognize that we have technology at our fingertips that makes it easier to stay connected on the off-hours, which can be good and bad. There may be times when certain projects require some weekend work but this should not be the norm. We will continue look closely at this as a leadership team and ensure we are partnering with our managers and employees to foster that balance.
