Pros

So far it's been a very good place to work. The working schedule is very flexible. The benefits are great compared to other companies in the area. They recently moved to a new building in Andover and it's more of an open concept working environment. It's really good at promoting collaboration and general conversation with your coworkers. Standing/ sitting adjustable desks are great! The company really seems to care about their employee base. I am new here, but I already feel like I am happier than any of my other jobs at which I've been. I have no opinion of senior management so far.

Cons

The "open concept"esque of the building is double edged. It's nice to collaborate and interact with your colleagues but it also means no privacy, and it can get loud sometimes if you are around a group of people chatting right next to you. IT is rolling out a new system for the computers and such and so there are bugs there. But they are fairly quick to fix things. The company is very very flexible with time and working hours but there is no official policy on comp/ flex time or working 4x10s or taking every other Friday off. It seems like something you work out with your manager on a case by case basis. The only reason i give compensation and benefits a 4 star is because of this and the fact that I think most US company's compensations could be better. But compared to other US companies, the benefits are very good.

Thank you for this very thoughtful review. We look for input regardless of your experience or tenure with the company so we really appreciate everything you had to say. HR is embarking on an effort to enhance onboarding and will be creating an interdisciplinary team made up of employees across the business to develop it. Our job architecture includes a career path component and we are working with managers to encourage them to make sure their employees and new hires see their future opportunities. We wish you much success at Mercury!

A company filled with contradictions

Pros

Incredibly interesting technology to work on. There's more variety here than most places for the technically-inclined... Circuit design, software, hardware/mechanical, systems, etc. They do it all.

Cons

From an execution point of view, Mercury Systems leverages old, antiquated engineering practices and is extremely poor at planning, resource management, maintaining a long term technical vision and executing on it. They do great things but could be so much better at it. The company is positively horrible at resource management, having adequate resources to maintain continuity on a program, focus, allowing time to sufficiently and accurately plan, etc. Some of these problems are due to the nature of the work but it could be much better. Change at Mercury is glacial.

Pros

Friendly talented people (Those that haven't left yet), Room to grow if you have the right manager, 3 weeks vacation to start, Variety of healthcare choices, On site fitness room

Cons

Mercury likes to operate very lean to keep the profit margin up. Expect to work 10-12 hour days and weekends and still fall behind. As the workload grows, they don't hire more people to support it. If you see job openings posted ,it's because people are dropping like flies. Expect a 3% raise once every 3-5 years and health insurance to increase 6% annually. If you go above and beyond the long days, nights, and weekends, Mercury may give you a "Can do" award which comes with a $100 bonus. You can use that to buy something for your kids that you don't see anymore.
