Pros

Nice physical work environment and the employees doing the "hands on" work are dedicated and care about the patients. Very friendly atmosphere.

Cons

Pharmacy department leadership is lacking. They seem to be out of touch with what the working pharmacist actually does and the challenges they face in trying to do extremely stressful job. There is much politics going on at lower management level. Management is so inexperienced as a working pharmacist that they have no clue when you tell them about an issue or problem. Moral and respect for management is very, very low and getting lower all the time.

Pros

I got the opportunity to learn countless things that I was never aware of before, but that was due to the people that worked there. In my department they allow you to work from home for a portion of your time, which makes life much easier. There is great potential to make Mercy an almost true agile environment. Leadership is super friendly, and office culture is pretty laid back. The opportunity for personal growth and learning has been outstanding.

Cons

There is endless red tape and silly politics at Mercy. The pay is dismal compared to other companies. They told everyone that they were going to lay about 300 people off two weeks before they did it. This department lost quite a few very good people, not to the layoffs, but because they found employment when it was announced that Mercy was going to lay people off. Training was adequate, but nothing specialized in the specific technologies we were going to use.

Organization has been in a downward spiral over the past 3 years.

Pros

Good colleagues and people on the front lines that truly care about the patient's well-being.

Cons

Corporate executive leader literally said, "I have the reputation for being a slave driver" and "I'm going to crack the whip". Crazy, right!?!? That is exactly how you are observed as a co-worker, a slave to the pointless initiatives that come out of the endless, self-promoting meetings at the executive level.
