Best Days Are Behind, Not Ahead

Business Outlook

Pros

Great coworkers, decent benefits, monthly company lunches, some recent modernization

Cons

New management is driving the company into the ground and employees are finally starting to see right through the empty promise of better days to come. Expect limited salary increases, stunted upwards growth, very high turnover, endlessly-growing backlogs but no resources to conquer them, micromanagement from new bosses who know nothing about processes and products, zero regard to employees' mental health, and recurring "townhalls" to sweet talk employees out of unhappiness and into loyalty, although evidently nothing comes out of those meetings.

Pros

Good benefits package. Salaries seem competitive. People: the teammates I work with on a daily basis are very talented and hard working. New owners and bringing in more experienced executives and managers.

Cons

The acquisition by private equity firm and subsequent forced merger in 2018 has completely changed the company. We used to have a great start-up mentality, where everyone just wanted to work hard to help deliver a great product and keep our clients happy. However, now that the new owners have installed their folks in management, they have put an emphasis on profit and performance metrics. Teammates who used to go out of their way to help others, go the extra mile for clients, or write extra high quality software just don’t do it anymore, because it is not visible on a performance metric the owners care about, and it will cost you in other metrics. This is also causing unhealthy office politics to increase in my observation. Overall, I feel their approach will produce success for the board, investors, and executives in the short term, but I feel like a lot of people on the ground at the company are the ones paying the price right now. Though maybe we had this coming, and this will weed out the people who cannot play ball in the new system.

No Free Lunch

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

There is no free lunch from this company. You really need to prove your worth. If you want to be on top of the summit, you have to climb the mountain which should be easy with patience and hard work. I don't expect best of everything from this company because I am not the best and I am not contributing the most profit. However, I am happy with the company for providing an opportunity at the right time for the right person. I saw first hand how an intern engineer get to work on the cutting edge technology and how a secreatary got promoted to support, consultant, and leadership position.

Cons

No incentive plan yet. Would be mutual benefit to all, if employees have some ownership of the company.
