Pros

Good benefits. You can get promoted of you're in the right "clique".

Cons

Lack of support from management; we are seen as replaceable parts out in the field. We have lost many of our personnel as a result - they were not let go, they just quit. These are the same people who helped guide us through the past few difficult years, and they were treated with no respect. Meritage then hires college grads (cheaper salaries) instead of experienced constuction personnel. Construction personnel build homes in more than one community, handle all homeowner meetings, handle warranty tickets in multiple neighborhoods, have the responsibility of getting good surveys, and whatever special projects come our way. The work is piled on, and there is no compensation for it. Oh, and we're EXPECTED to go home and finish our work on the computer every night when needed. No - I have a family. Our culture is absolutely horrible.

Pros

The benefits are competitive. Support services by IT, HR and Accounting are good. There are opportunities for continuing education and training.

Cons

Lack of leadership and vision at the Senior Management level has created a negative environment. It is very difficult to implement changes, new programs or put forth new ideas. The recent push to centralize sales and marketing functions has eliminated many positions at the local level. There is too much emphasis on the ideas and input of a select few, which results in limited opportunities for advancement or recognition.
