Pros

Senior management generally good about noticing and recognizing hard work, but that won't necessarily translate into higher pay or more hours.

Cons

The FES's and AM's are generally rude and on a bit of a power trip. Hard work does not translate into higher pay or more hours. The laziest and rudest PT sales associate in our store gets the bulk of the hours in our store because he's been there the longest.

Pros

Every other weekend off as well as decent store hours. Possibility to meet some very interesting customers. Cowerkers arent too bad.

Cons

End of the fiscal year, who was the same SM or DM still? Too much to do with too little labor hours. By far the hottest place I have ever worked, is the thermostat set to 80 in there? Procedures are refined, then refined again, then again, but with each change they keep saying how great it is. Well if it was so great after the first change, why change it 2 more times? Instead of having a help desk they should just leave the manual that the help desk reads from in the store. I have never seen a retail company enjoy sitting on so much inventory - how do those highwalls look everyone? Just because SMs and DMs have worked at Michaels for 15 years, doesn't mean they are good employees. Open door policy should be changed to brick wall policy. Loss prevention focuses more on going after employees than shoplifters and scammers. I thought something was odd when the handbook said the best way to deal with a shoplifter is offer exceptional customer service.

Pros

Pretty good benefits, 45 hour weeks, every other weekend off, good customers, decent work environment, paid vacations, supplemental vacation days

Cons

Unrealistic expectations, not enough hourly payroll to get the job done, not enough salaried associates who care about their careers
