Compensation. While the quarterly bonuses and 401k matching are a nice extra, they do not offset the below average base salary. Likewise, the RSUs are a very good package, but they do not translate to cash immediately and you have to work years to accumulate a decent number but this does offset the low base salary. Being an engineer in the NY site but being paid the same salary as the engineers in the AZ site is not fair because the cost of living in NY is significantly higher which makes it very difficult to get by with the low base salary. Likewise, raises dont seem to be very popular and are the bare minimum if given.

Their solution, since they are too cheap to pay severance for layoffs is to put all the production operators on rotating mandatory furloughs. After the first round everyone was out of pto, so as they continue the employees have to take no work, no pay which nobody can afford, or go on unemployment. They do this so people will quit but that will take a long time. They have no idea how long this will take and a year looks like the best guess. Many slugs that do nothing will be there forever while the experienced people will eventually say to hell with it and move on. It is a bad practice and they will their best. They don't seem to care as long as it saves them a few bucks.
