stagnant pay/ paycuts

Pros

they have decent benefits, does not require physical labor, semi-flexible hours. As "secure" as a job in the semiconductor industry could be. Isn't too difficult, slow paced environment.

Cons

paycuts, raise freezes, "hiring freezes". They cut existing employees pay due to "budget requirements" and implemented a so called "hiring freeze" . Yet there are new employees and interns joining microchip, who are unaffected by the paycuts. So 2+year experienced employees are making about $4000 less than new college grads. this sort of "soft firing" will cause there to be a gap between experienced employees, and new college grads.

Pros

The people who work there are very nice and very helpful and generally well informed on the industry and what it is like to work in it.

Cons

They are archaic and have a few rigid policies considering vacation time and remote work, etc. They are an aging group without a way to appeal to the younger generation.

Historically a fantastic company to work for, with some recent concerns

Pros

No layoffs in 30+ years. They do furloughs and temporary pay cuts instead (that you get back in RSUs and bonuses when the company is doing better). The managers are overall pretty good, there are growth opportunities, and most locations are non-toxic.

Cons

Salaries are middling. Focus has started to move off of overall productivity in favor of a level of control that borders on micromanagement. Forget to badge in a couple of times in one quarter? Your manager tells you that you are on a list to be punished because you were not following the very, very strictly monitored WFO/WFH rules. Application developer putting in 12-14 hours a day at home and hitting your milestones on time? You're on the list. It is more important to put in 8 hours/day in the office even if you miss the deadline.
