Pros

There are many entry level positions available for young people seeking to get experience working on ships and the maritime field in general. MSC is the logistical arm of the U.S. Navy and provides support to our combatant ships and task forces around the world. The agency hires civilian mariners and provides training and seatime which will give you U.S. Coast Guard merchant marine credentials. This is a great way to start a career at sea or in the offshore industry.

Cons

You will be away from home for long periods of time.
