Pros

Government ships travel to more ports and parts of the world you would normally never travel too sailing commercial.

Cons

Vacation- probably the biggest reason MSC can’t retain employees is because the vacation earned is a joke. They expect you to go out to see for a minimum of 4 months(Actually 6 months because it takes 2 months on average to get relieved) and only receive roughly 3 weeks of vacation. After your vacation is up in a month, they want you to come back. Unless you want to be away from home 10 months out of the year, this isn’t for you. Reliefs- unless you are a entry level position, it will take roughly 1-2 months to get relieved. Engineers are on the high side of 2 months. The office doesn’t care how long you go over due and you bet after your month vacation they’ll be calling you to come back.
