The pay for the area (San Francisco) was not competitive and the responsibilities/workload were far greater than advertised. Many employees had to work overtime and had unreasonable time/budget deadlines on audits.

-Tax department is rife with favoritism, nepotism, and bad culture. -Promotions are not merit based and are entirely dependent on the tax partners temperamental feelings toward you. -Efficiency is looked down on. If your coworkers are staying until 12AM manually referencing spreadsheets, they are seen as hardworking. (what is vlookup anyways?) -Technology is old and at times unusable. You will find yourself sifting through mounds of paper and unreadable PDFs to find anything resourceful. -Little to no transparency, everything is done behind closed doors and partners are not willing to hear new ideas. -Way too much politics. If you can get on the good side of your boss, you can get by without doing much at all. -Employees eat hours because they are expected to complete an unreasonable amount of work in too short of a time frame. - Avoid this place if you want to move forward in your career. Getting used to the technology and process of how things are done here will hinder you if you plan on moving anywhere else in the future. The Tax department is just an afterthought to the firm since the majority of the revenue comes from Audit.
