Pros

Good corporate culture with reasonable time off policy. Site has honest and kind people who work there from legacy Sigma Aldrich days. A lot of "job shuffling" at this time, which may be a precursor to a bigger shake-up in management. Site is expanding, and more openings than can find people to work in the area.

Cons

Pay. Hazardous work environment - buildings have burned down on site in the past. Mediocrity rules. Poor offices, lack of meeting room availability. Small changes are being made, but for many seem to be too little too late. Lax/ it's not worth bothering attitude - more in management not individuals (see other review about beaten down employees). It is extremely hard to get something done - whether it's your regular job/tasks or, even worse, trying something new - no centralized resources, gossip, leadership is not aware of how to run projects or work across departments, limited resources/staff drowning in tasks.

Pros

Generally good team spirit and collaboration. Good level of mobility within the company to keep developing one’s career. A lot depends on your direct supervisor’s attitude, though, and their relationship with their team. Company policies are flexible and focused on talent retention. Lots of great in-house training and support to attend off-site training. Decent, competitive benefits. Relatively higher salaries.

Cons

Dramatic shifts since acquisition by Merck KGaA in 2010 and even further with Sigma-Aldrich integration since last year. The company has become a perpetual “in the process of integration” organization and it shows in reduced morale and generalized sense of uncertainty. Silo mentality is the rule rather than the exception. Too much depends on personal relationships as opposed to processes and shared goals.

Pros

Benefits are OK. Good 401K plan. Work-Life balance is not bad.

Cons

Legacy red (Sigma Aldrich) management operates as they did back in the 70s. This applies for both locations-Milwaukee and Sheboygan. Lack of communication. No long term planning and telling the team what they're trying to accomplish. No communication to employees on what's required to grow their potential to become a leader. There is no employee recognition, no opportunity for advancement. HR is not involved in anything. They are supposed to ensure maximum development of human resources , identify the needs of the individuals, and help the organization grow. They are not doing any of these!
