Pros

A job is a job right up until you make it a career, which is just a job that you take seriously. Millipore was my first legitimate corporate position, and through enthusiasm, diligent work, a friendly demeanor and a desire to learn, Millipore provided experience in spades. The money was nice, too. Millipore's Lean Six Sigma group is top notch. If you have the ability to work with them, take advantage of their experience and knowledge. Also, EMD Millipore pays its CS department very well in comparison to other corporations. Their college reimbursement is also fantastic. Advice to current and future employees: Some of the best, most experienced and well paid people at EMD Millipore moved from department to department, or even left and came back. Don't stay in one place too long. Sometimes you need to take a step back to move two steps forward.

Cons

CS occurrence policy (sick time, etc) was the worst policy ever created. It needs to be revised or dumped altogether. The need for it is understandable, but the reasons for it can be dealt with on an individual level. It is complete garbage to prevent parents from taking time off to care for their kids just because of their prior sick time use, or to force them to take off without pay.

Pros

Many opportunities to hone your troubleshooting skills.

Cons

Nonexistent work/life balance, unpaid overtime is regularly expected of salaried employees, opportunities for advancement are awarded to people outside the company or internal candidates who are poorly qualified based solely on their social circles. Going above and beyond only serves to place a target on your back to those who don't want to put forth the same level of effort. Expect zero recognition or appreciation.
