Pros

- Affordable benefits: $40 / mo for individuals, but they offer incentives that allow medical to drop to $10 a month. - Most faculty are appreciative and supportive of your position - Extra given days (paid days off) per the President of the university- You get 3 days off for thanksgiving and 2 weeks around Christmas. - Low stress most of the time - 15 credits of free classes per year

Cons

-Staff do not get wifi outside of their work computers. So you can't log your phone to wifi or a laptop if you're on your lunch break and want to get stuff done. - There are not a lot of pay raises outside the standard across the board increase. There are some people who've been in the position for over ten years who make less than the median value for the position. - You have to pay for your own parking pass -Public education means lots of micromanaging to follow regulations -Some faculty can act demeaning towards office staff -Sometimes downtime can last a whole week -You don't get access to the recreation center

Pros

The overall structure of MSU is pretty standard and straightforward.

Cons

The department I teach in is disorganized, under-funded, and full of drama. Though I am a graduate student working as a teaching assistant, I have had little to no support beyond being given the title of the class I am to teach and the room number. I know this is not the case in other departments, but having spoken at length with tenured faculty, the dysfunction in this department is pervasive and ongoing.
