Pros

Relaxed work environment. Engaged CEO. Small company feel. Wide variety of projects with small teams, so you get to try a lot of stuff. Very "open source" friendly, both in use and under production (or at least as close to "open source" as DoD software can get).

Cons

If you're looking to be more than a team lead, you're not going to find a big enough organization to lead here. A fair amount of software has an experimental feel to it, which makes sense, nothing is developed for retail consumers. ...and about 10k calories worth of snack foods are there to tempt you all day long.

Pros

Even a fresh graduate or intern can have significant control of their projects. All of the employees are wonderfully nice people.

Cons

They don't have consumer-facing products, which could be a deterrent for some. Some employees may be required to work offsite. All other downsides are to be expected of small companies: they don't have a gym, cafeteria, etc., some of the perks of the bigger guys.

Pros

Everyone loves software, and the talent level is very high. There are a lot of ways to contribute and a lot of smart people to learn from.

Cons

There are a lot of people working offset and it is hard to get everyone together.
