Pros

Salary and benefits are competitive Most people are very professional and a pleasure to work with

Cons

Culture is changing in a way that is sad to see. Under the previous Chair, everyone was part of the team and we all contributed to making the firm what it is. Now, both knowledge and reward are reserved for the inner circle and trickle down leaving those of us nearer the bottom wondering if those at the top even know we are here. The shift from valued member of the community to fungible cog has been abrupt and unsettling.

Pros

They pay market rate and the offices are air conditioned. That's all I can come up with. The firm color is blue. Lots of litigation work, if that interests you.

Cons

Benefits costs are higher than average. 401(k) vesting is a five-year cliff. No real bonuses. If you work overtime, you get in trouble, but if you don't, you get in trouble. Work 80+ hours weeks because they're shorthanded--and they're always shorthanded because people burn out--and they'll still complain when you take a day off to do necessary personal stuff. Whatever you do isn't enough.

Pros

There are no pros. Even the pay is terrible.

Cons

If ML could hire monkeys to do the job of assistants, they would. This demeaning work environment makes you feel worthless. They don’t want anyone that has a brain or anyone that might offer positive ideas for change and improvement of morale. They want you to do your job and shut up. On top of that, all personnel with the exception of assistants can work from home. The only people required to be in the office, are support staff. Support staff are required to be keep records of all of their work assignments. It’s not a happy or positive work environment and I am so glad I left. I am at a new job where my strengths are appreciated, my opinions are valued, and am part of a team. At ML, you’re in an island by yourself. Finally, the staff is not well compensated. By industry standards, ML is on the very low end of salaries.
