Thank you for the feedback. As a decentralized organization, we rely on strong team‑level ownership, and we recognize that can create challenges around visibility and consistency if we’re not intentional. Maintaining an open culture matters to us because we believe, and have seen over the last 40 years, that our environment promotes innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit. Our rewards structure remains focused on fairness, transparency, and merit‑based recognition.

Transparency is pillar of Morningstar, and pay transparency is no different. As part of our public CSR and other reports we clearly and consistently communicate compensation. We also believe there’s real value in coming together in person, which is why we ask teams to be in the office four days a week—focused on collaboration, learning, and shared purpose.

Pros

Collaborative and friendly culture: Teams are supportive, and colleagues are generally talented and easy to work with.

Cons

Below-market compensation: Salaries for engineering roles are often reported to be lower than comparable tech or fintech companies.
