Pros

location is downtown, it is interesting business to work in

Cons

have been here through a lot of the changes over the past 3+ years. I have seen over 20 people leave for different reasons if not more. It would take a spreadsheet to figure everybody's name. I think the major problem is like everywhere there are certain people are favored and that no matter what you know or have done in the past it doesn't matter. There has been a complete change in a lot of dept's along with HR. New people come in and it seems like the "old" staff who have kept the place going during the transition are cast aside.

Thank you for your feedback. It’s important to us that all of our employees feel empowered to grow within our organization and achieve their career goals, no matter their role or years of service. There is a significant culture shift underway at Morton Salt, and we look to our employees to provide input into those efforts via employee surveys and other tools. We heard from many employees that they wanted a work environment that was more open and collaborative, which was a driving force in our decision to break down walls (both literally and figuratively) at our new headquarters office. Certainly we will look at additional perks but we also encourage our Chicago headquarter employees to give our open office concept a chance to succeed. Morton Salt HR Team

Pros

We have fairly good health insurance for the price we pay per month. Most people are hard working and fun to work with.

Cons

Pay The company wants their salary workers to have a college degree which is fine. However, unless it's an engineering degree you are not compensated for it even if your position matches your degree field. Union workers (that are only required to have a high school degree) are paid just as much or more than those of us that have college degrees in something besides engineering. Basically if you want to work for Morton Salt either don't waste your money going to college or get an engineering degree so you can make enough to pay off your student debt. Hours This is a great company to work for as long as you don't have a life outside of it. They are constantly changing schedules and forcing people to work. Don't plan on doing anything on your days off unless it's a scheduled vacation day because chances are you're going to be working. You don't want to be a supervisor during the holidays. They have to work all holidays and are not given another day off durning the week in exchange. The higher ups at the plant sure seem to get all of their holidays though.

Pros

Decent pay, that's about the only thing i can think of. Hard industry to outsource, although the possibilty does exist.

Cons

Lack of benefits, if you arent upper management your ideas are worthless. No trust or teamwork between hourly and salary. Company constantly divides its employees.
