Pros

Fairly competitive salary, average benefits, nice headquarters location with decent amenities.

Cons

Substantial layoffs in the last several years has resulted in a significant loss of talent and overall knowledge of the company as well as the salt industry in general. Conversion of the business platform to SAP has eroded the ability to quickly respond to market conditions, instead soaking up significant resources to just function on a daily basis. As a result, fire fighting is the norm. Upper management unable to quickly make decisions other than to cut costs and heads. This has created an environment filled with stress and distrust. Long term planning and an employee succession plan is non-existent. Finger pointing is common in middle management and the remaining long term employees are just hoping to hunker down and survive. Contrary to the brand image of the Little Girl with the Umbrella, the company is poor in their ability to market their product.

Pros

Bargaining unit employees are well compensated for their hours of work and apprenticeship opportunities are available for various maintenance crafts. The rate of pay is among the best in Wayne County Ohio. The company offers a decent 401-K and health insurance benefits.

Cons

Work life balance is deplorable. Bargaining unit employees are required to work a lot of mandatory overtime. The focus is on Lean Manufacturing at the expense of employees personal lives. Lower management personnel are treated poorly and there has been a huge turnover of salary personnel since 2006.
