Pros

I enjoyed a lot of my time as an employee at Motive. The flexibility of working from home was super nice, and I enjoyed working with my direct team. The benefits are great as well. However, I think all of this can be found at other companies as well.

Cons

Things took a turn a little over a year ago and it hasn't been the same since. There are no clear goals for the team. Culture is dead. Misalignment on every level. Everything is top down, and you're completely blindsided by change. No source of truth for expectations. HR seems nonexistent when you need them- I know at least 4 cases brought to HR about a specific individual that were swept under the rug. If you can, steer clear.

Pros

Tech Pay. But considering it’s loaded up on, likely overvalued (or borderline worthless) RSUs, it’s not even that strong.

Cons

Executive team really has no vision for the company. All they care about, expectedly, is the valuation. The product itself, systems management, people development are all after thoughts. The worst executive is the Chief Revenue Officer Brian. He’s your typical big company executive who climbed the ladder at a big tech firm so has no idea how to scale a company, and he gives all non sales people tons of administrative work that really add no value. CFO is a complete pushover and has very little pulse on the org as a whole. CEO pays companies to remain on “top companies to work for” or “best CEO” lists. If you knew the real story how he was a let to start the company you would think far less of the organization.

Bad company for women

Pros

Decent pay Interesting problems to tackle Can have career growth as an IC Fully remote work

Cons

Sexism. The lack of gender diversity at the company is horrific, and there have been no efforts to improve it. The problem isn’t just hiring women - it’s retaining them. Women on the team have to fight tooth and nail to have their opinions heard. The women often have their credibility on their subject matter expertise questioned by people who know nothing on the matter. The general consensus from many women at the company is that if you want to excel in your career, you’re going to have to do it elsewhere. Also they work you way too hard and burnout is a huge issue.

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback with us. We read every review and take feedback seriously. We're sorry to hear that your experience at Motive is not living up to your expectations. We are committed to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. At Motive, we openly share our employee demographics and invite employee feedback on areas we can do better. While we have improved the representation of women on our teams (29% in the US), we know that we still have work to do. We host and sponsor recruiting events focused on underrepresented groups to attract top talent. In the past year, we have sponsored Sistas in Sales, Techqueria, AfroTech, Women Who Code, Lesbians Who Tech, Women Impact Tech, Latinas in Tech, and Catalyst. Most importantly, our managers are regularly trained on unconscious bias, inclusive leadership, anti-discrimination, and building trust and psychological safety on teams. As a company, we know that the only way to succeed is to take care of our team and make sure they are healthy and happy on every level. In addition to providing mental health support through Lyra Health, we offer a generous PTO Policy so employees can take care of themselves whenever needed. Your experience is not one we will tolerate and we would like to discuss it in more detail so that we can address it and improve. Please contact us at opendoor@motive.com to help us understand in more detail. Thank you again for your insight, it helps us grow and will make Motive better.
