Decent pay bad company

Pros

- Decent pay For a store associate they will pay you what you would expect at most retail jobs, starting at $15/hr. - Easy work Depending on your manager you can have very little expected of you or way too much expected of you. If you get an easy manager you can basically do nothing.

Cons

- Racist management Company has an issue with systemic racism that it refuses to combat. Noone is openly racist but most of the company is white and new hires tend to be white as well. Have literally been told that we are not allowed to remove customers from store who use racial or homophobic slurs against you or a coworker. - Few career opportunites Starting in a lower position basically guarantees you stay at that position unless you get lucky with a manager liking you. It is basically all based on opinion vs work done. Only real career path is Store Staff->Lead->Manager, good luck getting a position at the home office when starting in stores. - Poor management and poor communication of company goals. - Poor culture "We are a family" is used to get you to do more work for less pay and to care more about the company than should be expected of a low level associate. Do not let them bully you. - Getting shifts covered can be hard There is little incentive to cover others shifts and getting a shift covered is all on the employee unless you call out sick (even then you are often expected to get your own shift covered while bedridden). Overall decent place to work if you are younger and in school but horrible place if you are older (mid 20's+) and looking for a longer term career. Customers and pets are a plus, but as always customers are often a negative as well depending on luck of the draw.

Thanks for your feedback. We are happy to share that we provide our Muddies with a living wage based on the location of their workplace. We take allegations of racism and bullying very seriously. Please reach out to hr@mudbay.com and we will conduct a prompt and thorough investigation. Several of our Home Office positions are specialized. We publish our vacant positions internally every Tuesday and externally the following Friday. 57% of our Home Office positions are filled with Muddies that started in our stores or our Warehouse.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy your time with Mud Bay. We work hard to ensure that our Muddies are treated fairly and consistently across all of our locations. Our on-staff veterinarian Dr. Katy has been in the veterinary field for nearly two decades, with experience in both general and emergency medicine. She has additional education in food therapy, food safety, pet behavior, and small animal care. Dr. Katy partners with our Category and Learning & Development Teams, among others, to provide thorough, accurate, and informative information for our Muddies and for our customers. We welcome questions and feedback on any information that isn’t thought to be accurate, and do our utmost to ensure that the health and happiness of dogs and cats remains one of our top priorities. We are also proud to use the MIT living wage calculator in our pay structure, which is updated annually and calculates cost of living for individuals by county, including variables such as food, childcare, health insurance, housing, personal care items and other necessities. We also offer opportunities for promotion as another avenue for team members who would like to increase their earning potential.

Pros

Okay pay Generally very sweet staff Payed training

Cons

Hours aren't garnered They make things look perfect from the retail side though I wouldn't do anything but basic staff or lead as the further you move up the more stress you'll have and realize how much they really don't have themselves together. Company seems to be hanging on by a thread Paying to much into new business(grooming and delivery) instead of paying employees

Thank you for your feedback. As team members are offered the opportunity to grow in our stores, that does come with more responsibilities and adaptation to different types of situations. This is why we offer support through other store managers, district managers, and our HR department. If you have specific feedback you would like to share about management, please reach out to our HR team at HR@mudbay.com.
