Cons

This company once cared about all their employees but unfortunately, as of late, they have moved to a more corporate infrastructure. Employees no longer have autonomy and are most often not trusted to make decisions. Over the last year the company has rolled out numerous changes that are punitive and overbearing, ie a new dress code limiting women’s clothing specifically, A new point system was enacted as well as shortening sick time. Recently, 7 employees couldn’t get out of their driveway/ neighborhoods during a snow storm. HR, while monitoring the situation from another state, made the decision that the employees could get to work and opted not to close the store. When employees still could not get to work they were told to use PTO or receive negative points. Why is this problematic? Part time employees at MudBay work at most 11-13 hrs a week. It takes 6 months to glean enough PTO hrs to cover a 6hr shift. For 3 years prior to 2025, the store closed during severe weather events ensuring the safety of employees. By making this decision employees did not have to use what little PTO they had accrued. Not this year, MudBay ignored Local officials recommending to staying home and off roadways, the National Weather Service who called the event severe, the many businesses around their store that closed, and lastly the schools which all closed. This is just one of many smaller experiences over the last 2-3 years that show MudBay moving in the direction of a heartless entity with no care for employees or safety or wellbeing. The way in which they laid off their drivers was despicable. Watching hard working employees of 5, 6, and 7 years get passed up for promotions is heartbreaking. So many more issues.
